BlueTEC HYBRID – the best of two worlds.

The E 300 BlueTEC HYBRID is one of the thriftiest models in its vehicle class with a system output of 150 kilowatts from the diesel engine and 20 kW from the electric motor, a combined consumption of 4.2–4.1 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of only 110–107 g/km.

With this model, Mercedes-Benz takes a further step closer to its declared objective, emission-free driving, thus underscoring its innovative strength: Thanks to the combination of a 4-cylinder diesel engine with an electric motor the new E-Class is one of the most efficient models in its vehicle class. The E 300 BlueTEC HYBRID is a milestone in terms of economy, sustainability and comfort.

Quiet, relaxed cruising on long trips: The internal combustion engine can be switched off when coasting at speeds below 160 km/h. This can substantially cut both fuel consumption and emissions. The technical term for this highly efficient and enjoyable form of travel could not be more apt: Sailing.

With the coasting and enhanced coasting functions which can be manually activated using the steering wheel gearshift paddle, consumption can be reduced even further. Energy recovery keeps it to a minimum.The internal combustion engine stays switched off and the electric motor alone works to keep the speed constant.

During strong acceleration the boost function can provide noticeably more dynamics by using the power of both engines. And locating the lithium-ion battery in the engine compartment means the occupants do not have to put up with restrictions to the luggage compartment capacity.

  • Impressive economy and output figures: Working together with the electric motor, the 4-cylinder diesel engine is currently one of the most economical drive systems in its class. It also demonstrates extraordinary refinement.
  • Modern drive system: The compact high-performance lithium-ion battery stores the energy obtained from the electric motor and braking recuperation and makes it available again when needed.
  • High efficiency: This is provided by the power electronics, which automatically coordinate an optimum link between the diesel engine and electric motor. The electric unit supports the diesel engine with an additional maximum torque of 250 Newton metres.
  • Carefree driving enjoyment: The standard 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission is specially adapted for hybrid operation. The transitions from the internal combustion engine to the electric motor and the gear changes are hardly perceptible to the driver and the vehicle occupants.
  • Innovative systems: The regenerative braking system feeds surplus energy to the battery when the vehicle is slowing down. The ECO start/stop function can switch the internal combustion engine off – for example when halted at traffic lights. It is then automatically restarted using the stored electrical energy.
  • Extraordinarily environmentally friendly technology: Numerous forward-thinking measures, such as optimised aerodynamics, braking energy recuperation and the ECO start/stop function make for correspondingly good figures.
